Other Options

“Other Options” is a workshop for improvisers and composers. The workshop aims to explore the options available to improvisers or composers in a given aural moment, including the possibility of addressing or interacting with non-musical sounds. Stressed especially are these sounds’ periodicity and their inherent emotional and protocological content. Questions posed include: when did the sound of the plane passing overhead begin? When did it end? How does it feel? What does it make you want to do?

The workshop has been given once, at Bucareli 69 in Mexico City. Participants explored non-human expression through a series of structured listening and improvisation exercises and were encouraged to explore theoretical backgrounds of non-human expression.
