Graphic score for multiple improvisers (more than 2). Written at the Harold Arts residency in 2009.
Performers are instructed to scan through the set of pitches, beginning at the top left corner. Pitches should be played staccatto. When through with the pitches, performers are to speak the phrase “let’s talk about it.” This phrase should be repeated until, and past, the point where the performer becomes uncomfortable repeating it further. The performers then pick a random pitch from the set above and hold it. The piece should stay at a mezzo-piano.
Hear a recording below, made in the spring of 2010 with Jason Ajemian, Peter Hanson, Brad Henkel, Nathaniel Morgan, Josh Sinton, Owen Stewart-Robertson, and myself. Recorded at the Douglass Street Music Collective and mixed at the Buckminster Palace by Nathaniel Morgan.
