THIS IS IT is a text score for improvisers, to be performed by anybody. Originally devised as one-off performance at Heaven Gallery in Chicago with a group of Chicago-based improvisers (specifically, Aaron Zarzutzki on no-input turntables, Jeff Kimmel on bass clarinet, David Moré on homemade electronics and musical saw, Jaimie Branch on trumpet, John Paul Glover on baritone guitar, and Marc Riordan on drums). I then began performing with other musicians in other places, and it became one of the centerpieces of my ROAD TRIP: drawing a perimeter of the united states project.
In 2011, after not performing the piece at all for a year, I revised it. The 2011 version, which is may be performed by any performer(s), is available below.
